CrackerJack Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 I'm learning navigation procedures. I've been practicing intercepting radials using the yellow needle in the KPP to gradually fly on to the selected radial. What surprises me is how gradual this process is. I was intercepting from about 15 degrees off the desired radial and I thought 25km would be enough but it wasn't I over flew the station before I was on the radial. Does this seem correct?? Is flying the yellow needle on the KPP really that gradual? Is flying the yellow needle on the KPP really that gradual? Just to clarify, the yellow needles in the center of the KPP? (They are the 'directional needles'.) Or the yellow bars in the outer ring of the KPP? (They are the 'auxiliary PRMG indicators', mirroring the needles on the NPP.) If we are talking about the auxiliary PRMG repeaters, yes the intercept is very slow, because they show the deviation in degrees. If we are talking about the 'directional needles' a intercept might be slow. I would have to test that myself though before making a justified answer ;) Check out my YouTube: xxJohnxx Intel i7 6800k watercooled | ASUS Rampage V Edition 10 | 32 GB RAM | Asus GTX1080 watercooled
CrackerJack Posted January 24, 2015 Author Posted January 24, 2015 John - I'm referring to the yellow needle in the center of the KPP. I've watched your videos, thank you for your work. I found them very helpful and well presented. I hope you do more. It was after watching one of your videos that I did some flights to practice radial interception that led to my question/observation above. ttaylor0024 Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 The norm intercept angle for radials is 45* until the course needle comes alive, then gradually decreases as the course deflection decreases until captured.
