A couple of months ago I read Vipers In The Storm by Keith Rosenkranz, which is an amazing memoir about his own experiences flying the F-16 during Operation Desert Storm. Yesterday in DCS, when flying a night time A-10C mission from the "The Enemy Within" campaign (which is awesome btw), I remembered reading that chaff actually lid up the aircraft at night so I decided to try it out. In-game though, chaff turned out to be completely invisible (in the dark).

Here is an excerpt from the book:

We also discovered that chaff cartridges released at night leave a trail of light as they

disintegrate in the air, actually highlighting the position of the aircraft, making it susceptible

to enemy ground fire. We decided that chaff would not be used in the target

area unless we were tracked by enemy radar and being fired upon.

This should be a fairly easy effect to implement and would add yet another dimension to night time flying, especially at low altitudes.

-Col. Russ Everts opinion on surface-to-air missiles: "It makes you feel a little better if it's coming for one of your buddies. However, if it's coming for you, it doesn't make you feel too good, but it does rearrange your priorities."
