Serial Number Problems continue...

I purchased the Flaming Cliffs 1.1 download version last night and I was very excited to try out the new version. Unfortunately when I tried to "ACTIVATE" the game I could not find a serial number. There was not a serial number provided after my purchase, only a transaction I.D.

 

I emailed the developer and received an reply the next morning informing me that I could find my serial number under the "FILES" section after logging into the Lockon.ru web site. Yet again, sadly this was untrue. A serial number does not appear anywhere after my purchase under the "FILES" section after logging into the Lockon.ru web site.

 

My question is: should I cancel the credit card transaction and try and find a local retailer who sells the boxed CD version of the game? The download purchase experience has been extremely frustrating and I found myself getting disgusted and angry after an hour of trying to solve the problem unsuccessfully.

 

I love the product that this developer produces but, the purchasing experience has been terrible!

I tried to use the serial number along with the hardware code and the Activation key. The Star Froce crap says the game has been activated but, when I try to launch the game it still asks to be activated.

 

What the hell am I doing wrong? The game should not be this complicated and difficult to purchase and install. I just want to play the game I paid for!!!!! This is ridiculous!

Hmm - you might be looking in the wrong place.

 

1). Log in at Lockon.ru

 

2). Click the link: "Files"(just below "virtual pilots")

 

3). From the space on the right hand side, click the "downloads" link.

 

Your serial # should be listed in yellow below the "Lock On 1.1 Flaming Cliffs" purchase option.

If you are using the automatic activation option, the procedure is pretty straight forward - at the Starforce pop-up window simply choose "automatically", then type in your serial # and click activate. An activation key will be generated based on your serial # and entered automatically - and your are ready to play.

 

If you use the manual activation option, you first need to obtain an activation key - for this purpose you need your serial # and a hardware code. Since it sounds like you already have your hardware code, I will skip the steps concerning how to generate that.

 

Now go here...

...type in your serial # and hardware code and press "Get Activation Number". An activation key should now be generated...

 

 

Now run Flaming Cliffs.

 

From the Starforce activation pop-up screen choose "manually" - then "next". At the bottom of the following screen it says: "Please enter your activation key". Now type in your newly generated activation key and click the "activate" button.....and you should be ready to play.

 

It sounds like you missed this last step :) .

 

Explanation: The "Thank you - the product is succesfully activated" bit only means that the activation process at the Starforce end is completed, but as the process is manual(no online connection between the Starforce site and your computer), you need to manually feed the Starforce pop-up screen with the activation key.

However, I must express my disgust at this incredibly complex and frustrating installation procedure. I will never make an online purchase again from this developer.

 

I purchased the download version of the game on a Thursday and it took three attempts and I was unable to get a successful install until the following Sunday. 4 days! A download should work in seconds, not take days to figure out the complex serial number, hardware code and activation key matrix.

 

If it weren't for your detailed instructions I would have given up and simply lost the money. Thanks again for a very helpful post. :thumbup:

Which version of Flaming Cliffs did you purchase?

 

1). Flaming Cliffs download version from lockon.ru

 

2). Flaming Cliffs CD version distributed by Naturalpoint

 

3). Lock-on Gold CD version distributed by Evolved Games in the US

 

4). Lock-on Gold CD version distributed by Evolved Games in Europe(UK, France and Germany).

 

Please note that there are 3 different versions of the V1.12a patch - you need to download the patch compatible with your version of Flaming Cliffs. To do this:

 

* register at lockon.ru website(if you haven't already) and log in.

* click "Files" then choose "Downloads" from the area to the right.

* scroll down the list of available downloads to the section for the V1.12a patch.

 

Here you will see the 3 different download options along with a description of what Flaming Cliffs version they are compatible with - be sure to download the right one :) .

 

Since you said that "it started" when you tried to update the game, I assume you got one of the CD versions(for which you don't need a serial number), but mistakenly downloaded the patch for the download version of Flaming Cliffs.

What I'll do is uninstall the game and do it all over again.

 

By the way I purchased Flaming Cliffs the CD version plus the manual from Lock-On.ru.
