John C Flett Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 I work in Keswick, in the Lake District, Cumbria and it's great mountainous terrain. You see a lot flying through here; Hercs, Hawks and Typhoons. Been seeing Eagles who are through for a few weeks each year. We even had an Osprey pass through recently which I sadly missed. One of my colleagues has seen something which he thought might have been an L-39. I've only caught a glimpse and can't say he's wrong ( but won't confirm it either ). Anybody able to confirm or correct us on this? Thanks.
NeilWillis Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Ospreys, Golden Eagles, but definitely not an Albatross - they're strictly southern hemisphere birds. You might see the odd Falcon too of course, and Kestrels! Seriously though, some L-39s will be in the hands of the German Czech and Croatian air forces, so it isn't out of the question that you may see them in UK airspace as they are NATO member states. There could be one on the airshow circuit in Russian ownership too I guess?
John C Flett Posted June 17, 2016 Author Posted June 17, 2016 Lake District is good for the feathered varieties of bird too, I've seen a few of them around but they don't excite quite the way their mechanical cousins do. Only place I've seen the F 15 in the flesh and the Herc makes some great low level passes around the lakes. My main problem is, being in work I usually only hear them and they're gone before I can get a look. I missed the Vulcan's farewell that way, heard it but too late to get a glimpse.
