firesoldier845 Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Of course I have a PC, nice PC too for gaming and for LockOn and I my laptop is an Apple Macbook Pro that I use for doing work. I like both platforms and they both have their advantages so I don't want to start a debate on platforms PC vs Mac, but I really want to use my Mac to do LockON movies. The thing is I would really like to be able to take the AVI files from Lock-On and use them directly with my Mac for editing. The problem is iMovie and Final Cut will not read them. I've installed the xVid codes on my Mac and quicktime just won't play them. I can play them with VLC, but they are not usable with Final Cut or iMovie HD. I've double triple checked the xvid codec for Mac and it seems to be installed correct but it still don't work worth a damn. I suspect it's because I have an Intel Mac instead of an older G5 Mac. Well, I can convert them to H264 using another program and the quality is good, but I feel like I am still losing out. I really can't tell the difference that much but it seems like if I compress something that is already compressed in Xvid with a new Codec H264 then I am losing quality. Maybe not though? I really don't know and I can barely tell the difference after converting from xvid.avi to h264.mov - but it sure would be nice if I could just encode the AVI with H264 directly from LockON. Is it possible? Does x264 work with LockON?? FWIW, I actually made a really nice movie on my Mac and burned to DvD and it looks awesome on my 50" Sony HDTV. I mean, the final product video quality is still awesome but I just feel like I might be reducing the quality when I convert from Xvid to H264 for editing. Anyway, is there a free codec out there that's H264 that works with LockON?? This would solve all my problems. I mean, like I said, I still get very nice image quality that I could live with using the Xvid files and converting them to H264 files that I can use on my Mac. I'd just like to eliminate the conversion\re-encoding step if it is possible. Since the final product is going to be H264 anyway it could be best if the source is H264 from the start. thanks again - you guys have been very helpful with all the replies to my previous posts. cheers
