Guest VolkVoland Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 Hi all, I'm running FC 1.12a on ATI 9800PRO 128mb, dual 1600MP AMD with 1.5 GB RAM. I'm lost in all kinds of different FPS mods, and badly need some advice. Most water FPS fixes don't really work. I run stock water on medium. One fix adds a nasty glitter effect, another works but makes water look like a blank blue canvas. Flare FPS doesn't work with 1.12a, and actually drops fps more then stock effect. Grebbs explosion pack and other explosion FPS fixes don't work either, so I run stock settings. Other mods like sun/moon/runway etc are working fine. My settings; Textures -High Scenes - High Terr -100km CIV - no Water - medium Haze - Basic Lights- all Range - medium Effects - High Heat blr - off Shadows - Active plnr res- 1024 clr - 16 bit Full screen is OFF. Overcast mod 3.1 does work, not sure what sky/water fixes are since they don't have picts/descriptions. ATI settings AA - 4x AF - 8x CAT - Advanced Mipmap - quality API advanced geometry - on DTX - on Alt pixel - off Triple buffer - off 24 z force - off Some reoccurring bugs. Missing textures, sometimes total sometimes partial. F10 map mode image tearing, which results in missing map, objects, etc. Changing ATI specific setting does sometimes help, but it's pretty random. I'm just not sure what triple buffer, 24 z force and etc are. Disappearing weapon sound. When a number of identical cruise/anti-ship missiles are launched, in F6 chase mode some have engine sound, some don't. Not a big problem, but still annoying. Weapon launch smoke stutter, especially on naval weapons. For example, when Kh-41 launches from Molniya FPS drops from +/- 45 to 15. Explosion stutters. External view pan to main land stutter, sometimes REALLY bad. All around put-put basically. RAMdisk question. I allocated 625 megs and copied terrain, effects and graphics folders. I changed the path in the graphics config to z://terrain//graphics// and so forth. I hope it's the right way to change the path, because I still have to keep the folders in the lockon folder. When I delete the folder the game does not load so something is obviously still there. I changed the path in the following manner; ".//bazar//terrain// to "z://terrain// Game does load quicker, but I want to be sure that the path change is accurate. I really need to know all FC 1.12a specific FPS mods. I downloaded most of them from lockonfiles, and did carefully look at which are 1.12a compatible, but the bugs are still all over the place. Other annoying things that are still not fixed, but keeping my fingers crossed for the Black Shark; no amphibious capability for ground vehicles, no column path effect after bridge destruction, no train waypoint setting, no internal command guidance for R-27T/TE, no Mainstay/EWR target specific data-link which allows for zero emission (no radar no IRST) ambush tactics, complete inability of all Soviet/Russian ATGMs to connect a side hit while TOW has 100% hit probability, still can't get a T-80 to launch its own ATGMs, no "cover/engage/cover" AI code, inability to correct waypoints and issue new orders in real time from F10 map mode while mission is running, KA-27s can't take of/land on Neystrashimi even though it's specifically mentioned in encyclopedia (same as with R27T/TE), no weapons on KA-27, no "time to impact" counter on SU/MIG HUD, no auto cannon on MiG-29 (SUs are still in question apparently), haven't tried the Miech-33 ground mapping radar of SU-33 but as far as I know its been deleted since Flanker 2.0, no terminal attack phase maneuvers on bazalt/granit/sunburn/kickback, even though we have "Bereg", man would it be just spectacular if the following coastal defense systems were added; SSC-1A 'Shaddock'/SS-N-3, SSC-1B 'Sepal' Redut:P-35, FKR-2, P-5S/P-35B, 4K95 Progress/4K44 Redut, Utes, SSC-2A 'Salish'/Meteor/4K87 Strela, Sopka: FKR-1, KS-7/S-2, SSC-3 'Styx'/4K51 Rubezh SS-N-2 "Styx": P-15 "Termite" SSC-X-5/3K55 Bastion: 3M55 Yakhont SSC-X-6 'Stooge'/3K60 Bal: 3M24 Uran BAL/X-35 object 100/825 Sopka Alfa - Mobile/Naval version is SS-NX-27. Granit - Fixed Shtorm - Fixed Object 100/825 GTS Sopka is essential in my opinion, since the corrupt Ukrainian officials literally chopped up all such sites for scrap metal, thus destroying and depriving next generations from historical and incredibly unique Crimean defense systems. Balaklava Nuclear submarine base (825 GTS) can be easily modeled into an operational site, both with subs departing and stationery missile batteries, so at least it's memory can be preserved in virtual reality, and not just as another tourist attraction. It would degrade the game play element a bit, since such extensive coastal defense will negate the possibility of easy Crimean invasion, but it sure will make it very interesting to model theater wide "armada" type scenarios, in which NATO air power will have to destroy stationary installations and hunt down mobile coastal defense missile batteries before attempting to bring the NAVY with in striking range. Oh the possibilities... Anyway, I'll appreciate any FPS modding advice, since do the size of my missions I need to squeeze out every bit of performance. Thanks everybody.
PFMM Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 From my experience, modding FC only yields about 1-5 FPS and is usually not worth the effort. In general, the only real modding one can do is to disable the shader effects, or use the settings ED provides. The only real modding you should do, in my opinion, is custom textures and custom models. As to your system, FC does not recognize dual cores, so your CPU speed is effectively halved. Drop scenes to Medium, Haze to Advanced, up colour to 32 bit (many effects need this to operate properly, and modern graphics cards are optimised for 32 bit). Running FC in a window is a performance hit, full screen is best. The overcast Mod is fussy, and doesn't make much, if any, of a difference. WHOAH!!! AA and AF OFF! OFF! OFF! Not suprised you are seeing so much stutter. AF to 2 AT MOST (THATS ALL). Ignore the advanced settings, you don't need them. As to the rest, you will just have to wait for my magic wand to come back from the cleaners. Hope it helps.
Guest VolkVoland Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Thanks PFMM, I'm still trying all kinds of options. Now I'm messing around with procaff and CPU0. Still, I get missing textures and very annoying flicker in map F10 mode. AF/AA on 0 looks really bad, so I keep it at 4/6
PFMM Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 Well, you are the boss, but I can't stress how much of a hit AA/AF is on your card, especially when things heat up. To test if you need procaff, use ctrl-alt-del to bring up the task manager and check your processors activity. If both are active you won't need it (And I don't think you will). Other settings that will help you are ; Set AGP aperture to 64 in your BIOS Set all the wait states in your BIOS to disabled Set textures to medium. This last one will result in a noticable improvement in frame rates and smoothness, especially on your card. Oh, for the record my system is 3.05 P4HT,9800Pro 128MB, 1GB RAM.
Ardillita Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 VolkVoland install the FPS MOD 1.12, you will find it at lockonfile.com It really helps. Look well for other mods, some of them are not updated and don´t work in 1.12. Use the FPS mod 1.12 I told you, install some of the water mods too, and you will see an improvment. Use Modman to install the mods.
