Hi,

I was looking for a Kashin destroyer for Viggen campaigns but failed that and now looking to see how I could exchange the SA8 naval SAM for an SA3 Goa naval SAM with some text manipulation.

 

In fact ways to work around the missing ships in a Russian 1980-95 landing fleet, including existing mods (didnt find any useful yet) and dirty hacks...very much appreciated including how-to's.

Not meaning to turn this into a blog but since this detail isnt described anywhere else It might stoke some imagination/assistance form others if I say what I found yesterday.

 

The modname.lua contains thereference to the model, the ship, its speed and movement capabilities, some details on what it is and, importantly here, the weapons system and where it is attached on the model. SOme chaps have successfully played around with these as per https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=142377.

 

Whilst I don't need to create a new weapons class entirely, I'm hoping to use the GT_t.LN_t.S125 class and swap out the existing GT_t.WS_t.ship_OSA_M class that the ship currently uses.

 

Therein lies my problem, these weapons are very differently written in the missile.lua and my hopes of swapping a name failed when I began to get errors. DCS checks the changes at startup and if it doesnt fit, it fails depending on how I tried to do it. Seems to be launchers and sensors involved, the weapon name each uses and whilst I understand the logical overview I'm missing something each attempt at trying. Anyone?

I settled for a Buk on a Reski model, changed its name to a Kashin and left it at that, its 75% of the desired effect. I've got a lot more to discover about weapons and the SA3 seemed to be quite a different weapon for some reason. But i kindda frigged a Kashin DD badly enough to work for what i needed so far. Still working on this from time to time.

OK thanks to Gospadin I could use the codes in the wsTypes.lua in my updated missile.lua. I've edited it to create a new launcher and weapon type in the missile.lua rather than reference an existing one because the launcher for the SA3 doesn't work when replacing the OSA launcher. I'll try tweak some more stuff now I got the main objective nailed.
