9thAF_Mac Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Hi there gents, Just wondering if you know of any good game hosting companys that I can rent a Lock-On server from? Thanks for any info. ~S! Mac
VapoR Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Not possible. Companies that rent game servers require the game to have a dedicated server application (with remote admin). Lock-on to this day does not have this.
9thAF_Mac Posted November 5, 2006 Author Posted November 5, 2006 So when I got FraggedServers to host our IL2 server a while back it was all an illusion? :music_whistling: I know it's possible I jsut have to work with companies to get it setup. May have to rent an actuall server with Remote Desktop. lol Fraggedservers was a little more restrictive than I'd liked. Just asking y'all if you know of anybody else. I'll keep searching and post some links.
LawnDart Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 You are both right! Lock-On doos not have dedicated server software. ...that means you have to rent a box and host the game via remote desktop. We (the Virtual Thunderbirds) host our dedicated box on Tier 1 connection from VSK Gaming Servers. While it would be a lot nicer to have true dedicated software, this workaround and having your own system makes for a very stable and fast connection to host multiplayer games. Unfortunately, renting a box costs more than game hosting, since you "own" the entire machine. Good Luck! 9thAF_Mac Posted November 5, 2006 Author Posted November 5, 2006 Yeah we had somebody whe was going to set up a server for us. He had said that he put in 8 grand into in and got the line dug to his house. Think T1 or higher. Not sure. He fell sick and can not complete the setup so we have to look at something else. I've been looking at the boxes which cost just under 300.00 U.S.D. A bit much. But if everybody chips in it won't be that much. Anyways thanks for your input ~S!
LawnDart Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 A T1 in itself is not any guarantee nor that fast. 1.54Mbps... Having your box on a Tier 1 connection is key! Read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tier_1_network However, if you could have a T3 at home, different story! Let us know what you guys come up with. :) [sigpic]http://www.virtualthunderbirds.com/Signatures/sig_LD.jpg[/sigpic] Virtual Thunderbirds, LLC | Sponsored by Thrustmaster Corsair 750D Case | Corsair RM850i PSU | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS X CODE | 32GB Corsair DDR4 3200 | Intel i7-8086K | Corsair Hydro H100i v2 Cooler | EVGA GTX 1080 Ti FTW | Oculus Rift | X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty | Samsung SSD 970 EVO 1TB NVMe | Samsung SSD 850 EVO 1TB | WD Caviar Black 2 x 1TB | TM HOTAS Warthog | TM Pendular Rudder | TM MFD Cougar Pack | 40" LG 1080p LED | Win10 |
9thAF_Mac Posted November 6, 2006 Author Posted November 6, 2006 Yeah I have, at home, a 1 Mbps upload and the T1 is not that far off. From what I was told the line this other guy has is alot bigger. But who knows, he's out of comission at the moment. ;) Yeah we'll let ya know what we come up with and hopefully get a new server showing up on Hyperlobby.
LawnDart Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 One thing I forgot to mention is that if his T1 line is his and his only, it's very reliable and steady (even with lower Mbps compared to cable networks); however, if it's a shared T1, the bandwidth will suffer and then some... may as well host it via modem! :smilewink: [sigpic]http://www.virtualthunderbirds.com/Signatures/sig_LD.jpg[/sigpic] Virtual Thunderbirds, LLC | Sponsored by Thrustmaster Corsair 750D Case | Corsair RM850i PSU | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS X CODE | 32GB Corsair DDR4 3200 | Intel i7-8086K | Corsair Hydro H100i v2 Cooler | EVGA GTX 1080 Ti FTW | Oculus Rift | X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty | Samsung SSD 970 EVO 1TB NVMe | Samsung SSD 850 EVO 1TB | WD Caviar Black 2 x 1TB | TM HOTAS Warthog | TM Pendular Rudder | TM MFD Cougar Pack | 40" LG 1080p LED | Win10 |
