Setting up Thrustmaster HOTAS X

I know this thread has been made about a bajillion times already but I figured necroposting would be worse. So here goes.

 

I started playing DCS very recently as my first flight sim and the HOTAS in the title is arriving on Monday. I'm asking for suggestions for a decent controls setup, for mainly Air-to-Air missions (I bought FC3 in the sale :) )

 

I'd prefer not to use the mouse as some have suggested in other control setup threads, mainly because I only have 2 hands that will, in combat, be on the stick and the thottle. I think the hat switch might be suitable for this since trim I don't think (though feel free to tell me how wrong I am) I need to use trim... much (though I hear the Su-27 needs a lot of trim).
