I just bought a Warthog HOTAS setup, and was stunned to find no cover on the bottom of the joystick, after taking off that large metal mounting plate, leaving a circuit board and wiring naked.

I do plan to mount the joystick on a smaller, lighter plate. But, have to wonder who decided having no cover on there was a good idea. Even an inexpensive rubber pop off cover would have protected things.

The cover is that large metal plate that you have just removed. If you disassemble it and start playing DIY stuff, well, it's up to you to protect the internals.

Seems logical to me.

The plate is a separate piece of hardware, and only one option for mounting. Lots of people are taking it off and mounting the joystick other ways. Therefore, I think the bottom of the joystick should have its own cover.

when the Warthog was released there was no one in the flight sim community, other than Cockpit builders, who envisioned putting extenders on the joystick or taking the base-plate off. If you use a Super Wheel-Stand Pro to mount your Joystick and throttle you will have a new base-plate Provided by them
