Weta43 Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 I've been playing some missions I made for use with the Lockon Mission Randomiser app ( I don't know if Ruggbutt made it or just spreads the word ?) & although making the missions is more of a task, it does add a lot to the playing of the missions if you don't know from one flight to the next what's going to happen & ups the replay value considerably. I think that this would be a great thing to either bundle with - or even better incorporate into - LOBS. With an appropriate folder structure it could run automatically as missions are loaded (say you make missions into a set of user folders & the game automatically writes randomised missions & loads them when you hit fly), be invisible to the player & as it only randomises units with start times either before or 1 second after the mission start, people who just want a simple mission could make them & not use those times (which are realy only useful as tags anyway ) & the randomiser wouldn't effect them as it ran. Very limited development work for ED - the code is all there & tested, & even if they had to re-write it, the logic is already there & (correct me if I'm wrong Ruggbutt) doesn't seem that complicated - but it works pretty well. Cheers.
aschaab Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Hiya, great idea, perhaps I may add additional suggestion that fits perfectly to this original one: How about creating a quasi-dynamic campaign environment with minimal efforts for the ED team :) ? Okay, what do we need ? 1. At the end of each mission a textfile "<Missionname>.gol" (or whatever) is created that contains in each line "Goal xx = SUCCESS/FAIL" (optionally with additonal descriptors). It simply states whether goal #xx has been fulfilled or not. 2. In the Mission Editor, you can choose a preceding mission in an option field, after which the placement options for a unit have an additional field "Place only if goal <dropdown list from 1.> is <SUCCESS/FAIL>". Of course, in a campaign, the preceding mission is given by the campaign itself. This is the core option, that allows to optionally place units/object depending on whether a previous mission goal has been accomplished (or has failed). 3. After each mission, an external .exe-file with a given name is called - this could be the mentioned mission randomizer. These three options should be relatively easy to implement (with 2. probably being the "biggest" effort) and will give the option to create a sequence of missions that allow a quasi-dynamical flow of events. Together with 3. the missions could even be completely dynamical. What do you think ? Greetings, -Axel-
VMFA-Blaze Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 There was a guy that spent quite a long time developing a new mission generator for Lock ON.. this was about 2 years ago.. Well there was some problems between him and ED concerning this ... And he actually seem to disappear at one point .... So if you start doing something along these lines I think that you should verify that everything's OK before you spend a lot of time on it... ~S~ Blaze intel Cor i7-6700K ASUS ROG MAX VIII Extreme G.Skill TridentZ Series 32 GB Samsung 850 Pro 1TB SATA II ASUS GTX 1080/DIRECTX 12 Windows 10 PRO Thrustmaster Warthog Oculus Rift VR
Dusty Rhodes Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 Blaze you are talking about Ross McGregor and he is still actively working on Storm which is a dynamic campaign generator for Lock On. Check it out here: http://lockoncampaign.com:8811/news.php Swingkid was working on his own version called Skywars but apparently has real life getting in it's way right now. So there are 2 DC generators in the works technically. SwingKid Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Swingkid was working on his own version called Skywars but apparently has real life getting in it's way right now. Work continues, I'm just no longer able to post about it. :( Thanks for remembering me nonetheless! -SK
VMFA-Blaze Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Yes that's right, Ross McGregor... Thanks for reminding me Dusty... I actually went into the UBI Forums trying to find the thread but couldn't ... And of course not to leave you out Swing Kid I remember how hard you were working on Star Wars as well.... And from the latest scuttlebutt ED is working on their own as well... Or have they actually combined there interest with the present on going work of the two above mentioned gentlemen ????? For me to actually be able to utilize dynamic mission builder along with smarter AI is essential for me ..as I don't like flying on line.... :smilewink: ~S~ Blaze intel Cor i7-6700K ASUS ROG MAX VIII Extreme G.Skill TridentZ Series 32 GB Samsung 850 Pro 1TB SATA II ASUS GTX 1080/DIRECTX 12 Windows 10 PRO Thrustmaster Warthog Oculus Rift VR
aschaab Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 I would heavily welcome any development in LOMAC like the excellent DCG (Dynamic Campaign Generator) for IL2. I think its crucial for a long-time interest for all those offline players. With "heavily" I mean I would also gladly contribute to such a project, either by active help (knowing a bit about programming) as well as by paying for such an addon. I stopped playing LOMAC a few years ago until re-starting very recently, so I am happy to recognize that the efforts from Ross Mc Gregor and Swingkid (and apparently also ED) are still actively pursued. A big S! to all of you ! Thanks so far, -Axel- P.S.: Unfortunately, the mentioned "lockoncampaign" link does not work here....
Weta43 Posted March 14, 2007 Author Posted March 14, 2007 Still - LOMR works NOW & could be incorporated easily before launch... P.S.: Unfortunately, the mentioned "lockoncampaign" link does not work here.... try it now ... Cheers.
aschaab Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Still - LOMR works NOW & could be incorporated easily before launch... Hi, yeah, absolutely true. Which is why I still think your request (and my "hijacking" addition :music_whistling:) to be valid and relatively easy to implement. It would be great to get feedback from one of the ED officials and/or the beta-testers who have a better connection to ED. -Axel- P.S: Hmm, the link still does not work. Maybe something with the companies network, have to try later today at home. Thanks !
