Idea is to allow adding empty waypoints/routes like any normal waypoint, but without ties to any group / belonging to any group. They could be even without coalition / sides and so on neutral ones.

The idea is that these gets to be called just with a name. In this case "alpha1" and "alpha2". Each route has its normal waypoints for the altitudes and the positions etc, and there can be even the tasks that can be recalled by the group using them.

This would allow easily to make a more complex, more dynamic and altering missions where one needs just to add a groups/units without any routes, and then add multiple different kind routes and then dynamically assign groups/units to those routes with scripts and other conditions.

Example if a mission conditions changes, the group can be made to change from original route to route alpha1 waypoint 3 and even swap to route alpha2 waypoint 4 from route alpha1 waypoint 5 or when mission conditions are changed again.

And as this is not tied to individual group or unit, any other group or unit can use the routes and their waypoints as mission requires. Like if there is a specific air corridor that is used to strike behind enemy lines, that corridor can be set as multiple route (by variation of high or low altitudes) that is then called to be used by various air groups when the mission requires so.

In multiplayer this would allow to make a dynamic missions where there are multiple different routes to target area and the only important thing is to command group/unit to use one at different situations.

This way as well could be added routes with just a one waypoint in them and call them example "circle1" with a task for circling that waypoint at specific altitude and distance, that can be used as a rally point when ever it is required without complexity to be added to units/groups logics. Like if an 50% of the group gets destroyed at any given situation, the group can be assigned to quickly move to "circle1" and they would circle that waypoint without any other tasking. Then there can be simple a radio task to call them to move to another place or join with a another group.

This would as well allow to build more sub-logics to what different groups can be swapped at different moments without requiring every group in the map to have lots of duplications for variation.

And as the routes are not tied to groups, in multiplayer the routes could be even created based different conditions and then assign players to those tasks as sorties, by combining the different routes together, like first use one of the take-off routes, change it to one air corridor routes to get player in the area and finally assign a new created route for the mission and return back to base in reverse. So when the targets and target areas change dynamically, the players could be assigned dynamically to perform those but use the generic routes to arrive to the area, as each target route would be a single waypoint as target point, all linked as one current waypoint that they could see on map.

The server/mission logic could automatically assign new mission routes ("circle1") by the recconnance or reports of the players. Like if aircraft gets shot down by the SAM site and pilot reports his general location, that general location can get added a "SEAD - SAM - 27" route that then gets added to the sortie roster for multiplayer to be chosen by players.

Same could be that once radar gets spotted some units and tracked a while, there is created "INTERCEPT - PATROL 82" route to general area.
