Baitball Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 The title says it all; after the update today, I don't understand what is going on. The last DCS Stable update placed the Hornet into the Stable, at which point I (and I'm guessing alot of other people) downloaded the Hornet onto Stable and uninstalled Beta. However, today's update involves the Hornet and it is only available for Beta. Can anyone explain to me why this is? Were we supposed to stay on Beta for the Hornet? Is there a delay between the beta update vs the stable update?
Doum76 Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 (edited) New updates always goes to Beta First, last update for Stable/Released Version was to bring Stable/Released Version to the same build as Open Beta which was 2.5.2.xxxx. In other words last Sable Version was to introduce Persian Gulf map and Hornet. Once they are satisfied to latest patches and updates of the Open Beta, Released Version will benefits another update. You don't want new features going live on a Released Version without knowing how it can react as Alpha's, Beta's etc.. are there for that reason. Edited July 4, 2018 by Doum76

So if I do fly on Beta, am I still connected to the same server sets as those flying through the stable DCS?
Doum76 Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Understood. So if I do fly on Beta, am I still connected to the same server sets as those flying through the stable DCS? That i can'T say, if all patches makes versions uncompatible or when it's minor patches it stil can be compatible, if any patches makes a difference, then chances if you updated your Beta today that you can't connect with them as they are on the same version Beta was pre-today's patch. One way to easy know is, i can load my REleased version, see the server list i see and open my Open Beta and see if the servers are the same... I'll check for you.

I am rather new to DCS, how long does it usually take before a Beta update is applied to the Stable? In other words, should I be reinstalling Beta and remapping?
Doum76 Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 You won't be able to, as you can see, both list are different, one has most of my bookmarked servers, while the other version only has one of my bookmarked server in it.

It depends, can be fast, can take long, all depends on how it goes, sometime they might wait a few updates done on Beta, then run a bigger patch on Released to combine them all.... As they did with 2.5.2 on Released Version... If Disc Space is not an issue for you, you can always has the option to install both, so you has best of both world. That's what i did. So when they update something on Beta that screw up something, i can turn around and go in Released version until it's fixed.
