akosmaroy Posted March 17, 2019 Posted March 17, 2019 Hi, I'm having trouble getting ICLS localizer & glideslope guidance for carrier landing in the Heatblur F-14B model in any case other than the designated carrier landing instant action & tutorial missions. When approaching a carrier, I have TACAN tuned to the carrier, I can confirm that it points towards the carrier, I have the AN/ARA-63 switched on, the channel is selected as per the mission spec (channel 1). I have LDG mode selected and AWL/PCD as the steering command. but the localizer / glideslope indicators on the HUD are 'fixed center', e.g. it is not showing any actual guidance. In the designated carrier landing tutorial & instant action missions, the guidance works fine. I wonder what I'm missing. Any pointers welcome. Akos
Spiceman Posted March 17, 2019 Posted March 17, 2019 Only thing you didn’t mention was selecting ILS for the HUD display (top right on PDCP). Make sure you’ve done that. Akos So far you are barking up the right tree, but you also must select ILS using the two switches on the PDCP panel for HUD and VDI (the third switch set is HSD, but that doesn't affect approach path needle display). The switches tend to be set to ACL, switch both to ILS. So two buttons and two switches need to be set to get the needles in addition to selection of the correct channel on the ARA 63. Landing Mode, AWL are the buttons, and ILS selected for HUD and VDI are the switches. Fly Pretty, anyone can Fly Safe.
akosmaroy Posted March 17, 2019 Author Posted March 17, 2019 Only thing you didn’t mention was selecting ILS for the HUD display (top right on PDCP). Make sure you’ve done that. I've done that, and now I don't have any needles (even though I'm on the approach side of the carrier) if I set them to ACL, then I get the needles back, centered and not moving but the TACAN & the channel are both set correctly. I wonder what else needs to be set
akosmaroy Posted March 17, 2019 Author Posted March 17, 2019 my mistake, I was too high :) thank you, now everything works as expected!
Spiceman Posted March 17, 2019 Posted March 17, 2019 Only need ILS on the VDI if you want the ILS on the VDI. You can fly ICLS on the hud and monitor ACL on the VDI and vice versa... In reality, ACL requires that the ship lock up the aircraft on one of it's two ACL radars. That didn't happen on Case I approaches. Therefore, recommend using ILS for backup during daytime Case I ops. Fly Pretty, anyone can Fly Safe.
Spiceman Posted March 17, 2019 Posted March 17, 2019 OK...
