Exorcet Posted June 1, 2019 Posted June 1, 2019 Both Tornado ground attack variants will return to base when nearly full on internal fuel. I'm not totally sure if the fuel amount is the problem as the AI (only the flight lead) will jettison tanks before returning. This is severely limiting the range of Tornados. I thought it might be reacting to nearby threats, but they will RTB even by themselves. Tracks attached with fuel usage (IDS track also has F-18 AI for comparison). Also based on other testing I'm wonder if might be part of large AI fuel issues. I tested B-1's and found that they are most efficient at low altitude.
