I'm in the process of building a custom bracket for my joystick, and am using some RC car shock absorbers to provide some damping. The general principle is working well, but I'd like to add a thicker damping fluid to make them more effective.

Bit of a long shot, but does anyone have any idea what oil I could get that would help me achieve the desired result? Might be a challenge as I'm not sure what the damper comes with....

Hi,

change the oil to a differential-oil type with very high visco number.

And fill them to the max.

But you should use a dampertype without these useless reservoir.

How much travel and how much resistance?

For the scale model stuff there is a range of oils of different viscosity.

But maybe have a look at the "motor cycle" steering dampers I use these on collective and anti-torque and they may be alright at the lower resistance settings. They have about 75mm travel.

BTW nice setup.

Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment.

Gazelle Mini-gun version is endorphins with rotors. See above.

Currently rolling with a Asus Z390 Prime, 9600K, 32GB RAM, SSD, 2080Ti and Windows 10Pro, Rift CV1. bu0836x and Scratch Built Pedals, Collective and Cyclic.

While its a bit expensive, if you would really like to tune the damping, this is an option.

I used to race RC cars and there was a big difference in damping. But with the forces you have on the stick, you would probably be good with the 20 or 30 wt.

Also, depending on your shocks, many have a replaceable orifice for an even a wider range of tuning.
