New Guy's Wish List (Flying Tigers, VR, docker/podman dcs server container)

New DCS user - used to play Falcon 3.0 back in the 90s and then haven't touched flight sims (or games really for that matter!) till DCS a few weeks ago. I'm having a good time with it. What a difference from EGA to 4K!

Bought a bunch of maps and aircraft - the F5 and the F18 are a blast. I've taken to using the F5 as a "touring run about" to explore the maps. Need to work on my aerobraking.

The Mustang is fun but the 109K4 and Spitfire are like hot rods - roll/turn rate is NOW but the ground handling is evil! Fun stuff! :) Kinda "meh" on the 190A8 - kinda wish I bough the Dora instead. Next sale I guess.

I'm not sure if these "wish list" things have been suggested already but I'll throw them out there anyway.

I saw some news that a P-40 was coming and that there will be a Zero to play against the F4U.

Sounds like the required elements to make a Flying Tigers AVG in China Mod/Map. The P40 and Zero would have to be 'back dated' to the older versions and I'm not sure if a P-40F in AVG markings looks as nice as the slender shark nose of the P-40A but beggars can't be choosers.

Maybe the model could be revised... For someone that works with 3D modelling tools every day it's probably an afternoon's work? ;)

Also, how cool would a flyable PBY Catalina be? Grumman Goose?

Other aircraft: Tempest, Sea Fury, P38, Hurricane, Vampire, CF-100 Canuck (yeah - that one is probably really unlikely - can an amateur with 3D Blender skills make DCS aircraft on his own?). T28 Trojan, F-104? Falco F8L? Oh my.

On a different topic...

I started setting up a private DCS server and it is such a "non-optimal" thing to install a Windows VM on my server. It's a big enough box and can work well enough with 4 cores and 16GB of ram dedicated to the VM but... ugh, Windows on a server - so inefficient.

I heard a rumour that the new version of the DCS server software was going to be a console app? Maybe it's something I can run in a container? .NET Core Linux binary? Anyone have any info on that? If anyone on staff likes that idea I can be a tester. :)

I'm excited about the new stuff in the pipeline for 2020.
