If using the combo can I just use DCS in game software to configure the stick or do you have to use Virpril software?

Trying to decide which way to go for a new Stick.

Thanks

I use the Warthog grip on a WarBRD base and there is no issue mapping the buttons ingame. You will only need the software to calibrate the base, select the attached grip and if the base is mounted on the right or the left side. The rest is up to you, maybe a firmware update in order to use the TM F/A-18 grip as it needs the latest firmware to work, but thats all.

I've just purchased the Warbrd base and VFX grip, and plan to also get the Hornet and Viper (A10) grips too. Yes I know, but hobbies are expensive...

Question: Can I hot-swap the grips in game? In long multiplayer sessions, I'll often switch between Hornet / A10C / Tomcat, depending on what's needed at the given time. Will I have to exit DCS every time I switch grips, or can I swap them and jump in the new plane? I don't plan on using any of the Virpil or TM proprietary software.

Like others said, you only need the Virpil-Software to create a profile and calibrate the hardware. After that you don't have to touch the Virpil-software again, if you don't want to. All the button and axis assignments can be done in DCS World. I'm using the WarBRD with the TM Warthog and TM Hornet sticks. No problems at all. The WarBRD is a very nice piece of hardware, in my opinion. Here's a picture I made.

I believe you need to change the profile on the Virpil software for each grip change, but it's pretty quick to do.

Virpil WarBRD | Thrustmaster Hornet Grip | Foxx Mount | Thrustmaster TWCS Throttle | Logitech G Throttle Quadrant | VKB T-Rudder IV | TrackIR 5

...and, quite literally, you can run the Virpil software on a different machine, configure the base to run with the TM stick, then plug it into the DCS machine and map all the switches in-game. Once the base knows what's sitting on top it's ready to rock.

Been there, done that.

As stated above, you will need to tell the base via Virpil software that there is a different grip attached, but that´s all. DCS can handle a controller beeing plugged in/out pretty good, there is no need to restart DCS after plugging in controllers or switching grips. It would be similar with the TM base and Target. But besides that, i would highly recommend to cut your base from power supply before switching grips. I wouldn´t want to have electronic signals running through the pins while i break contact. And while DCS will recognize the "new" controller, cutting of power to the base won´t make much of a difference. I was switching between Warthog and F/A-18 grip regulary on both my TM and my WarBRD base before center mounting the TM and never restarted DCS but only turned off the USB hub my controls are plugged in.

I don´t think so. Maybe via some kind of script, but afaik Target does only detect TM devices.
