Update: I was able to get the desired effect working.

I plan on making a new cinematic for DCS and have been messing around with different camera placements and angles. One that I have found that I really like is an internal cockpit camera that shows the pilot. I have been able to achieve this by using the f4 external view and then using the numpad in addition to r-ctrl and r-shift and the numpad.

However I have noticed that this technique only works with the "player" controlled aircraft. I have read that you can edit the default f4 camera position for each aircraft in the .lua files, but have had no luck finding the right file.

my goal is to be able to use the same technique on the ai controlled b-17 as it would look great flying through a sky full of flak bursts.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
