Hallo,

I'm sort of newbie in DCS and have a question concerning the role of Wingmen in missions like Coiled Vipers (Caucasus).

Once in flight, I can hear what they say but they don't react to any of my orders (formation, attack bandits, and so on). No reply such as UNABLE too.

I read on some posts that it might come from incorrect setting of the radios, but if this were the problem I should be unable to hear their transmissions.

The fact that I can't get any help from my wingmen makes impossible to accomplish the mission tasks as I don't carry enough weapons to take care of all the enemies involved.

Any hint?

Thanks for your help.

The aircraft has 2 radios, make sure you are transmitting on the correct radio, You may be hearing them on radio 2, and transmitting to them on radio 1.

Hallo Deano87,

Thanks for your reply.

Now I see..... However, I'm afraid I need a some further explanations that I could not find on DCS's F-16 manual.

Let's explain the situation:

1) I have set EASY COMMUNICATION on DCS's Gamplay settings

2) Whatever the mission (instant, trinaing or real mission), when I open the communication menu, FLIGHT is always in black. Which means that my Wingmen are not on frequency.

This also happens on an Instant Action called "2 vs 1 Air Combat Maneuvering" in Caucasus scenario.

I am supposed to co-ordinate my actions with my wingman, but I cannot talk to wingman as "FLIGHT" is black in my communications menu.

So, basically, I cant absolutely do what the mission asks for, i.e. co-ordination with a wingman to kill a target.

And I don't know on which frequency I'm supposed to talk to him as this is not written in the briefing.

Moreover, you say that I can transmit on a frequency and listen on another.

How can I achieve this with the onboard radio?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Flyingwolf,

As I said the aircraft has 2 radios, Com 1 and Com 2, as you can see from the two buttons at the top left of your UFC/ICP. You are listening to both of those radios simultaneously. So it is possible to hear a transmutation on Com 1 and reply to it on Com 2 which of course may be set to a different frequency.

Since you have Easy comms enabled, this cannot be the case. Do you have any other easy options enabled like Easy or Game aircraft systems?

Hallo Deano87,

Thanks for your reply.

I only have easy comm selected on general DCS options.

No other Easy or Game aircraft systems.

It's very weird. I can talk to ATC, tanker, AWACS and interact with them. But never woth my wingmen.

I can open the mission editor, make sure that all the members of my flight are poised to be on the same frequency (ie. 127.00), then I go flying the mission, set up THAT frequency (127.00), then I open communication menu, FLIGHT is always gray, and whatever I ask the flight (wingmen) to do, no reply.

I'm lost.....

Hallo again,

I've run the repair, but I still have exactly the same issue.....

Should I write this post to another section of the forum, i.e. BUGS?

Does it only happen in certain missions.

Or does it happen in all missions where you have Viper wingmen?

I don't use easy comms, and am pretty familiar with how the Viper comms work. Some missions, I cannot get the wingmen to listen or reply, so I am left to my own devices of engaging 4+ bandits. Even if the "flight" frequency is UHF and I change it to VHF, so I can monitor tactical and interflight. I don't remember if it worked for Coiled Viper, but I've had good luck on Island Style, Home on the Range and Night Life missions.
