cyberwings Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 I`m really not sure about this that´s why I´m asking. In real life all the planes that carry laser guided weapons carry also a laser pointer an a TV camera to acquire targets? I know that some planes like the F-18 have attached especial equipment when they use laser guided weapons, but would be possible for a plane to use those weapons without the TV monitor capability or the laser pointer capability. Well, that´s what we do with laser guided weapon mods. Thanks for any reply,

IRL it is possible if an outer source (f.e. ground troops, other units, planes, choppers, etc. if they are equipped with the proper marking and targeting system, and o.c. with a secure data transfer channel) marks the target for the 'weapon carrier' plane/chopper. A longer read including a longer answer for this question and future proposals > http://www.airpower.maxwell.af.mil/airchronicles/cc/neuenswander.html In LO you have to edit the 'requirements' of the air-to-ground munition, in the MEinit.xml file, and then you aren't forced to use a targeting pod.
v1per Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 F/A-18's use LANTIRN pods for targetting. And without them, you are talking about going back to the age of the "guess-n-release" game. Let alone, not hitting something on target or false identification of an object will really bit a pilot in the ass if he kills it. So the answer is No, there will not be that ability. That ability is only for pre-lased targets set by GPS coordinates.
