Compatibility issues can go way further than just  those encountered between motherboards and Ram sticks.

I have made an enquiry to Eurotech G-Skill about the difference between two generations of RAM sticks, as they released a new serie optimized for Zen 3 systems, this is their reply:

Even the same models of memory kit in different production period, there might have IC difference as we will be using different memory chips.

In general we do not recommend mixing two or more memory kits together, even if the same model number, may result in compatibility issue, such as unable to boot or unable to perform at rated speeds. Each of our memory kit is thoroughly tested for compatibility between modules within the memory kit before retail, so we guarantee each memory kit will operate to its rated specs on its own.

Thank you. Best Regards Euro Tech Support Team

Their reply came just in time for me to make a wiser choice, my intention was to purchase two kits of the same model, namely G.SKILL Trident Z Neo (For AMD Ryzen) Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin RGB DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3600 (PC4 28800) Desktop Memory Model F4-3600C16D-16GTZNC.

But as they pointed out, there are no guatranty that the provider will go through the trouble to check the full compatibility between two identical RAM kits, so after researching for its availability from the same provider, I opted for a (4 x 8GB) kit instead.

According to the results of diverse tests I have seen so far, the benefit of using 4 X sticks instead of 2 X can go as high as 10% FPS.

My tip, if you need to upgrade RAM, either make sure they come from the same batch or change everything, in my case, I will resell my actual RAM kit (Crucial BALLISTIC GAMING MEMORY 2 X 16GB) to CEX, just like my CPU and in a couple of moth my GPU.

Hope this have been informative. Enjoy your gaming.
