Ok, this is what I observed as well. I tried to shoot a target at 60nm from high altitude, ballistically it is quite possible with loft. TOF can be up 60 sec, and if target does a subtle maneuver, even if I paint it with my radar, missile just flies ballistic trajectory and does not turn towards the target.

That's expected, if you drop the missile link (basically, drop the track) then there's no way to send this information to the missile.   In-game the missile goes active when it reaches the activation distance from the target, or when you drop the track/link (or maybe it just goes dead then) - either way, it no longer processes information from the launching aircraft, nor should it in case 2.   In case 1, we know that certain missiles continue to use that m-link information at all times if necessary - but that depends on the missile.
