Voice Attack closing during missions now

Recommended Posts

Seems since the 2.7 update now suddenly I have issue where in the middle of a mission Voice Attack can close out. I have to restart it to get it back.

Not sure why this is happening, checked in VA settings for any hotkeys assigned to close VA and did not see anything. Anyone else experiencing this? VA and Vaicom are working fine as long as VA is running.

VA crashes for from time to time. Usually when idle, so it could be other plugins a. I've got. Anyway. I use the VAICOM tray app, and it always starts up VA for me. So it's not really much of an issue for me.
Cheers!

Hmm I will have to check that Vaicom tray app out thanks.

Edit: Can't seem to find anything on a Vaicom tray app - looked through the settings and also tried a search of the manual.

If you look in the Vaicom install folder (for me it is E:\Program Files (x86)\VoiceAttack\Apps\VAICOMPRO) you should find a Vaicompro.exe in there. Run this and it will launch VA / Voiceattack for you and will then relaunch it automatically if it exits. If you want to close VA down you will need to close the tray app by right-clicking on it and then choosing Exit. If you just close VA it will restart

Ah ok thanks, don't think I would have ever figured that one out - will give a try and see if it helps with my VA closing out issue during a mission.

Edit: - Should I remove running VA as administrator though?

Don't think that's necessary

I didn't change anything in VA and I can either run VA standalone or use the Vaicom program to run VA instead. For me both work fine and I'm currently running VA as Admin

👍

Seems running it this way has solved my VA closing during a mission issue.

Thanks again!

I run VA as an ordinary user typically without any problems. However, be aware that VAICOM wants to modify some of your DCS files and also its own files. If these are stored under c:\program files then an ordinary user will not have privileges to modify those files and this will cause failures under some circumstances. I found that if I modify Windows security to give me read/write privileges on the relevant directories then everything works fine running as an ordinary user.

BTW, I have recently started seeing VA crashes too. Had one last night in the middle of giving VAICOM a command. I had gotten the "recipient recognized" beep but VA crashed during the short pause before I gave the rest of the command. So it's not just related to idle status. I'm wondering if anyone has brought this up in the VoiceAttack forums to see if there is a way to debug the cause. I do not run any plugins other than VAICOM PRO.

Yeah I spoke to soon, VA crashed on me again today even though using the Vaicom shortcut to launch it.

Oh, it crashes for me as well allright. Been doing that for the last year or so. But when I use the tray app, it just restarts VA. And as I use a Spotify plugin that "beeps" when invoked, I know when VA has restarted.
Cheers!

The issue it causes me is I have it set to run as admin, so I have to remove my vr headset and click on ok.

Guess I will try it without having it set to run as admin.

I never used to have a problem with VA closing out on me, not sure why it is doing it now.

Edit: Hmm I did not have a check mark in run as admin, but I was still getting UAC prompt anyway. Not sure why - so I have put a checkmark in there to run as admin, will see if maybe that helps keep it from closing out on me.

I have always had the "run as admin" checked, so I've never had that UAC prompt. But I've might even have turned UAC down, quite a bit as well. Can't remember.

Must be cause with it checked I also always get the UAC prompt. I am just hoping maybe it stops VA from crashing.

I was forced to use the tray tool a long time ago when the failure rate got too high. I have sound cues enabled, so if it crashes, I don't get the cues (i.e. mic click static), then I hear the beep it makes when it first starts up, then I can use it again. I don't have a prompt, it does everything automatically.

Ok so today went well, after actually putting a check mark in VA for it to run as administrator, I did not have VA crash on me today.

Looks promising. I was getting the UAC prompt previously so thought I had it checked to run as admin but that was not the case.

Crossing my fingers for you. Didn't crash for me today as well. Both pre and post patch.
