Hi all,

Well after a few weeks with my extended T16000M which has been brilliant, I realised that I ended up with an extension that was slightly too short as I have had to elevate it on a platform.  Which is OK and as a first go it was pretty good.  Now I want to have a go a complete rebuild of an old gameport Suncom joystick.

This idea came about as I was perusing evilBay and I picked an old Suncom for a few quid.  Well it arrived this week, and after some tinkering, planning and experimentation I decided to give this a go.

So I stripped down the joystick and started with the mod for the extension.  All dry fitted but some more work needed with the Dremel on the internals to make it fit completely smoothly.

Once that's finished it will time to start with the rewiring and new USB Controller.  I intend to make the two hat switches usable with 4 way switches, and the side button into a two way switch with a press function as well.

I didn't realise they were quite a few versions of these sticks from Suncom!!!!   The prices for the Talon version is ridonkulous!

Oh and this time time I will be painting the extension black so it looks a little more professional when its finished!!!!! 😅

Now off to peruse the multitude of controller options!!!!! 😲

PS anyone got any tips on which USB controller boards they've used?

Are you planning to completely redo the internals or just to map the current one's output via USB? If the first option, I've built my own stick with an Arduino Pro Micro running MMJOY, A1324 hall sensors, a few 74HC165 shift registers, and various switches and I greatly recommend that route. Had no major issues and didn't have to write a single line of code thanks to Sokol1's great work on MMJOY. I only needed to learn the basics of KiCAD in order to have some custom PCBs made for me and avoid a wiring nightmare.

Why not just put the suncom onto the T16000? ages ago I cut down the base of one (which was a lot of work) put it inside a round electrical box, and then put a CH fighter stick onto the top of it.

Just had to require the buttons from the base into the stick

If you have a hand at remixing stls & 3D printing, you could use this extension as a base and then extend it as needed, and then use some of of these different hatswitch designs to build out the missing 4 ways. 1, 2, 3* (third one is my design based on the CH sticks)
