avp216 Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 Hello everyone! I seem to be having a strange issue, and for the life of me, can't seem to solve it. I have a Ticonderoga set up in a simple fasion to shoot down an aircraft that is trying to launch anti ship missiles at it. I have it set to Fire at will, and red state. But, no matter what i do, the ship will not fire its anti air missiles at the aircraft! I tried different ranges, different types of ROE and STATES, nothing! The only time it fires any missiles, is when the Anti ship missiles approach it. It fires SM-2s to intercept them. But that is it! I posted a track file in the hopes it might illustrate what i am talking about. Ignore the carrier fleet on the right. The Ticonderoga and Viggen are on their own in the waters to the left. I hope someone can help me out Thank you in advance! ticonderoganotfiringrims.trk
Wizxrd Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 Attached is an example mission of a Ticonderoga with no advanced waypoint actions, it will defend itself with RIM-66's (SM-2) against an attacking AJS37 with RB-15's. avp216 Posted August 1, 2021 Author Posted August 1, 2021 Thank you for the reply! I checked out your mission, and saw that it is doing the exact same thing mine does. But now i see those SM-2s ARE RIM66s and they are engaging both the RB-15s and Viggen. But that still confuses me! Based on the engagement distance, it seems the Ticonderoga is firing its missiles between 35KM to 45KM. Isn't this too short a range for the RIM66? Doesn't the RIM66 have an effective range of about 75 to 140? Correct me if im missing something I am new to Naval engagement based systems. Thank you so much for your time!
Wizxrd Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 Well it could just be based on the closing velocity, altitude and aspect of the target it’s tracking. That would just be my first guess, I’m not around to test but you could try increasing the speed and altitude of the AJS37 to try and get the most of the SM-2. Otherwise I think the range of them looked to be alright.
avp216 Posted August 1, 2021 Author Posted August 1, 2021 Fair enough, I appreciate your responses and time taken to answer me Have a wonderful day!
