Directional gyro auto adjusting during C&D start-up

Hello fellas. Hope you're all healthy and well. As per subject, is this supposed to happen or is it a simplification? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I am referring of course to the initial alignment. I would have thought that one would manually have to set it to magnetic heading.
