Just ordered Leap Motion, questions on compatability with physical peripherals

Hi everyone,

I just ordered a Leap Motion controller to go with my G2 and I'm very exited to try it out as it seems at ED improved it's compatibility with DCS.  I'm curious if anyone is using this together with other peripherals like MFDs or ICP/UFCs?

My setup is quite modular and I think I have managed to get the MFD's in the correct position. Anyone have experience with this? Is it hard to get lined up correctly so I can use the Leap Motion in game and actually hit my physical MFDs?

Another question: Is it possible to limit the FOV for the hand tracking? As you can see I have the Winwing Super Taurus and panels which obiously won't match 1-1 in DCS. It would be optimal if I can set up a limit so the handtracking does not track if my left hand is over these peripherals.

Thx for all input!

I think it might be tricky to get them lined up and scaled correctly, the chances of the buttons aligning physically and virtually are slim.

There's currently no option for limiting the FOV of the hand tracking or assigning other controllers to give tracking occlusion. If I had physical buttons then I probably wouldn't use the leap motion and rely on muscle memory and feel to get the right switches. I guess it depends on how familiar you are with the setup and how close it replicates the clickable cockpit.

edit: also be aware that IR reflective surfaces can kill the tracking dead if your hands gets near them. Ideally the hand outline should be bright and high contrast against a dark background. I'm having to use self adhesive closed cell foam sheet as an IR absorber on certain surfaces that were bouncing back too much. Use the leap motion visualiser in Gemini 5.2.0 to see what the reflectivity is like.

Yes, I think it will be hard to set up, but will give it a try.

Is there a function to turn on/off leap motion now in DCS? If so I can just use it when I need to touch the UFC.

Not as yet I don't think but I wouldn't imagine* it would be massively difficult to add a pause tracking function to dcs.

* Note that I'm an engineer not a coder/programmer so it might actually be really difficult 😄
