edmuss Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 As a sort of follow on to my previous thread, I was wondering what the correlation is between VRAM usage and textures. Using a 3070 with 8gb RAM up until I bought Syria last month I could run high textures on both options on stable release and whilst it would peak at about 7.5gb usage it never caused any issues. I've switched to OB and gained a load of frametime back with the latest release which is awesome but now I'm using 7.5gb as before but also about 300mb of shared vram which I think is causing the dropped frames as per my previous thread. I can max out every option apart from textures and it's fine*, as soon as textures goes high it drops frames and continues to do so till I restart DCS. I currently get 5-6ms on the main menu and 20-22ms flying rooftops over Beirut or Damascus. 11-20ms flying the a10c instant action on Caucasus. If I turn all settings low I can run high textures no issues and it's still using around 7.5gb. It seems that if I turn up any other settings it kicks off again and drops frames. Can anyone ccorrelate why it's demanding the usage of 300mb of shared vram when there is 500mb physical vram available? I mean, it doesn't look bad with medium textures but it used to be fine with both on high and now it's not. *Working on fine being motion smoothing on and not going above the 33ms frametime that kicks out motion smoothing. 1 Ryzen7 7800X3D / RTX3080ti / 64GB DDR5 4800 / Varjo Aero / Leap Motion / Kinect Headtracking TM 28" Warthog Deltasim Hotas / DIY Pendular Rudders / DIY Cyclic Maglock Trimmer / DIY Abris / TM TX 599 evo wheel / TM T3PA pro / DIY 7+1+Sequential Shifter / DIY Handbrake / Cobra Clubman Seat Shoehorned into a 43" x 43" cupboard.
