clipp Posted March 26, 2022 Posted March 26, 2022 An interesting issue popped up a few days ago I can't get a resolution to: VR will stutter in DCS and MSFS2020 but only when the window has focus. If I Alt-Tab and the window loses focus framerate is excellent. I've pulled out all virtualization, containers, WSL, 3rd party DCS plugins, startup items or anything I can think that might be related. Also reinstalled Vive software, tried different nVidia drivers, played with process priorities and ran DCS clean process but it remains. When DCS is launched and I watch frame latency in SteamVR performance monitor with the headset placed on the table the stuttering will occur in bursts like some thread is doing work or something on a timer then after a few seconds it will enter a solid stuttering behavior mode. It's not DCS as it repros in MSFS2020.... I'm trying to figure out how to approach this.... only when the window has focus.... strange... Windows 11/nVidia Titan X/i9 12900k/32GB clipp
clipp Posted March 26, 2022 Author Posted March 26, 2022 I ran a trace in Windows Performance Analyzer for 15 seconds with no focus, then with focus and then with no focus for 5 second windows. It looks like calls to d3d11.dll!CAsynchronous<ID3D11Asynchronous>::GetData<0,0> block for longer when the window is focused within Steam VrCompositor.exe which in turn stalls DCS.
clipp Posted March 26, 2022 Author Posted March 26, 2022 Removed and reinstalled Steam and went through SteamVR setup -> Fixed!!! 1
