Be careful - the slightest damage will set them off, and they are *heavy*. With a strict time limit. Not for the faint of heart. If you have never flown a sling-load mission, I strongly recommend you try something easier first. Three levels of difficulty from "Normal" to "Impossible". Hot and Cold Start slots available. Can be played single and co-op. Co-op makes this mission slightly easier. Never easy though - this is DCS after all. BACKGROUND Last night, around 04:45, shots were fired downtown Kutaisi at a construction site in a densely populated area. When local authorities arrived a few minutes later to investigate, they came under fire from what appears to be high-powered rifles and had to withdraw. When reinforcements arrived a little later, the attackers seemed to have withdrawn, leaving behind two dead local security guards, and a number of devices that appear to be improvised bombs. A few minutes later, at 05:30 a telephone call was made to the Office of the Mayor in which a previously unknown group demands that a number of prisoners be released by 08:30 today, or the bombs will be set off. The group also claims that the bombs are "dirty", containing some highly toxic or radioactive compound that would contaminate a large part of Kutaisi. At this point, we cannot ascertain if this claim is true. We therefore assume it is. A bomb disposal squat is on-location, but they triggered a booby-trap that killed one, and incapacitated another two members of the team. The Squad's Chief Engineer, while also injured, has assessed the threat: it is uncertain if any of the devices really contain contaminants; the trigger mechanism appears to be complex and expertly designed. We do not negotiate with blackmailers. But we also won't be able disarm all devices in time before the deadline, and although evacuation of the surrounding city blocks is on-going, we project that more than a full third of it's inhabitants will still be in harm's way when it runs out. We have decided on a different approach to mitigate the possibly catastrophic consequences of a 'dirty' blast inside the city: We will relocate the devices to a clear, uninhabited area about 2 miles to the south-east, close to the river. We currently are bringing in three separate bomb disposal teams that each set up close to the river and each will then try and disarm one device. Should one of the devices go off, current wind condition should carry any contaminants due south, to mostly uninhabited areas. YOUR ORDERS We have appropriated a small local airstrip on Kutaisi's western border as our operations base. Your helicopter has been drained of fuel to 50%, to be able to lift greater loads, and still have enough fuel to complete the mission. Start your helicopter, and as soon as you are ready, head towards the construction site to the east, bearing 110°. You can't miss it, the fires are still burning. Pick up the devices, and airlift them to the target zone located about a mile to the east, on the eastern river bank, bearing 125 from the construction site. The Zone is marked with orange smoke. A number of convoys is ready to pick up each device and transport it to it's own dedicated disposal location. BE CAREFUL - you are transporting live bombs of unknown material, and we suspect the contents are highly unstable. Even the slightest damage may result in an explosion BE QUICK - Unfortunately, you are also operating under extreme time constraints: we estimate that you have some 20 minutes to transfer all devices to the safe zone. MISSION DATA - Construction site bearing 110°, 1nm from airfield - Safe Deposit Zone bearing 125°, 1nm from the construction site WEATHER There is a light breeze coming from the north at 3 knots. CAVOK. MISSION NOTES You can choose between the following difficulties: Normal: Devices aren't too heavy, and you should be able to beat the time limit with only a little sweat Challenge: Devices are heavier and placed slightly more challenging to pick up Impossible: The devices are heavy, and can be difficult to pick up. There may also be more devices to deliver than anticipated. Once you choose a difficulty, you cannot change it unless you re-start the mission Remember that even slight damage to the devices can cause it to explode. cfrag Posted July 18, 2022 Author Posted July 18, 2022 Version: 20220718 Small Update: QoL, Typos, playability - you now receive a warning when you didn't choose a difficulty - you receive some feedback after you choose mission difficulty - orange smoke now starts when mission difficulty is selected (better MP support) - Restart Menu (for better support of dedicated servers) - Auto-Restart Mission 30 seconds after mission failure - typos, typos, typos corrected - neutral observer Huey (hot start, to familiarize yourself during solo play) - disarmed the cold Huey (sorry about that omission) for less weight Thanks for the feedback.
