Orion 1 base disassembly / connector cable swap help

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hey all,

I'm going back and forth with Winwing over the last 2 months trying to troubleshoot why my Orion 1 and F16EX stick and grip keep disconnecting. Over some time we finally got to a point they sent me connector cables for where the stick meets the base. I was able to figure out how to swap out the stick cable but still trying to get ample instructions from them on how to change it out from the base. The instructions on their website don't seem to cover tearing down the base, but tech support seems to be 'here's a part, figure out how to change it out'.

Has anyone had any luck breaking down their Orion 1  base in order to change out parts and if so, I could really use your assistance on how to change out the connector cable!

Have you taken the base apart? Should be straight forward. Unplug old cable, plug new one in, put base back together, attach F16EX. At least I hope it is! 🙂

Thanks Hawk!

I got the base apart but getting the connector to the F-16EX base required a few tools and force. According to Winwing's instructions, I put tweezers into the bad/old connector and bash it in with a hammer, then I could use the tweezers to pry out the rest of the parts of the connector. I was then able to put my replacement connector cable in and am on day 2 of testing and so far no problems.

Winwing assured me that while it would require a bit of force, it is necessary to get the old cable out, and I was a little gunshy about using more force than necessary in case I really messed things up.

Yeh! I think I would too! Basically they told you to force the connector out because it was hot glued or hard to get to? Anyways, glad you got it all worked out. I have the Orion 1 base also but now looking at the 2 for the dampening kit. Hopefully comes with the cable pre installed so I just have to plug into the F16EX.

Basically! It destroys the old part, which they suspected didn't work.

Well I got my new cables all put in...but still having disconnect problems! Hopefully tech support can figure out a solution.

They told me they can't just send me a new Orion 1 since they don't make 'em anymore...so wondering how they're gonna honor the 1 year warranty if I can't get a fix.

If everything else fails, they could send you a 2. That'd be the honorable thing to do on their part, and a nice compensation for the trouble. However, I wouldn't expect that until you tried literally everything.
