Dangerzone Posted October 31, 2022 Posted October 31, 2022 (edited) Hi, I was just wondering if there is a quick way of renaming individual units. If I have a template at present and I drop it on the map, or copy and paste units from elsewhere DCS will use a group name of the last entered and increment a number afterwards, and all the individual units will be named likewise. I can change the group name to something else (Such as Kiryat Armour), but each individual unit name will still reflect the original name. If the group has 20 units in it, I have to individually go through and rename each one. Just wondering if there's a trick to bulk-rename units in DCS for a particular group? Thanks Edited October 31, 2022 by Dangerzone Placed ? at end of subject line to indicate it's a question.

The only one I can come up with (and am quite hesitant to use because of too many unknowns) is to open the mission's .miz with a zip tool and edit the mission file with a good text editor (I use notepad++). Global replace for the group name should do it. The hair raising on the back of your neck? That's your brain telling you that you may have just introduced a difficult to find side effect. A good, convenient to do this would be a button "auto-name" in ME on the group panel that would take the group name and then rename all units in that group based on the group's name. Simple, straightforward, clean. Unfortunately not available. Edited October 31, 2022 by cfrag 1 1
Dangerzone Posted October 31, 2022 Author Posted October 31, 2022 Thanks cfrag. I thought about building a parser to go through the mission file and auto-doing it, but like you I'm hesitant because of the unknown. The idea of an auto-rename option when the group changes would be a very welcome feature!
