Help with ai air refuel

I am working on a mission on the default map. I have 3 flights of 4 hornets, one for SEAD, one for runway catering and one for a fighter sweep. The flights take off from carriers in the southern region of the Black Sea, meet up with tankers in the middle then attack Sochi Adler international, they are timed to have the SEAD and fighters arrive at the sake time with the runway attack flight a few minutes later with migs set to intercept. 

 

when we were filling up my flight(SEAD) filled up with no issues followed by the runway attack group which is all ai filling up with no issues, the fighters on the other hand were further north with their own tanker. When I arrived with my flight at Sochi I realized my escorts were not there, I checked the map and I could only find one out of the 4 fighters, he was flying super close behind their tanker in formation not refuelling, all of his wingman had vanished they were no longer on the map, I couldn’t find any pilot icons either so I’m assuming they all crashed into the sea. Should I have all flights going to the one tanker or did they just crash and the last one glitched out?

It's helpful to post a mission if it's giving you trouble. I find more tankers are better with many AI flights. Also check the mission log to see what happened to the fighters
