How do you create and capture your footage?

I'm not talking about recording programs, I have that sorted

What I want to know is how to get all those beautiful shots.

Ive noticed that doing it live or making it on a server and then grabbing the servers track seems to be the only way that works as when you just grab a track file from a mission on your local machine you start in position but after that your unit drifts and the ai seems to do what it wants, I've played back successful kills to capture it and not only do the ai trash the missile but they shoot me down!

So what is the best way, what way do you use to capture that stunning footage I've seen you all make?

I don't know what others have done - and have very limited understanding in this - so I'm wanting to be corrected where I'm wrong.

However I think having a dedicated server is the only option for external shots. For whatever reason, missions I have flown with others end up having my plane go stupid part way through the mission (doing things I never did when recording). From what I've learned, the servers track files record location, speed, etc of the aircraft, and not each players individual inputs - so it's probably the safest way to conserve external shots.

For the internal shots in the plane - I guess it's between gambling that the track file might work for you, and doing live recordings when you're in game.

Due to the lack of integrity with track files (in that they don't always work) it seems having multiple options (server track, your own track, and live recordings) hedge bets for the best options.

However as for the stunning footage. I dare say you're seeing many days upon days of doing, redoing, and redoing again - with live recordings just to get those different shots.

I'm very interested to see what others come up with.

Thank you so much, good to know that what I had suspected was infact the case, luckily I have a dedicated server to mess around on haha, as for the long hours of work to produce the stunning images, that's the part I'm looking forward to the most

Also, as a side question, what editing software do you use? At the moment I'm using HitFilm express cause it's free, I'm open to suggestions for better software and I'm happy to pay for it, I just don't know what one is Good

I'm seriously surprised no one else has commented to your thread. I feel bad that my novice response is the only input you're getting!

As for your question on editor software - I'm Davinci Resolve. Free as well, very powerful professional software. Have the ability to pay for update if you want advanced features - but I'm yet to exhaust all the features available in the free version. I ditched Adobe when they went subscription only many years ago and have been using alternative software since. (OT: ON1 is my go to Light Room alternative - it's not free, but I don't mind paying for good perpetual software).

Re Davinci Resolve - it's not a 'simple' bit of software. It's professional level even for the free, so it takes a little bit to get to start learning, but once you do - extremely powerful and efficient.

I'm a bit shocked too, I was hoping for a lot more responses how ever I think this is one of the quieter sub sections

In saying that thank you so much for your input it has been invaluable so far, I've made up a list of all the control options for the viers, have my DS ready and will grab davinci resolve and have a go

Holy crap davinci is so much better than HitFilm, it's just more complete all round, I'm slowly learning the new system, actually more the shortcuts than anything

I made a very quick video to test it all out, very rudimentary but good learning experience

I still have a lot to learn, but 1000 thank yous for putting me on to davinci!
