Aperture Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 (edited) Thinking about upgrading from 5900x to 13900k. Everyone says that DCS is heavily CPU bound, but will I get any performance increase or it is better to upgrade my GPU? Thank you! My config is: 5900x X570 DDR4 64GB RTX 3080Ti + Reverb G2 M2 SSD Edited November 24, 2022 by Aperture "To dream of flying is to awaken the soul's desire to break free from gravity's hold."
Aperture Posted November 23, 2022 Author Posted November 23, 2022 In DCS my GPU have about 87% load 95% of the time. DCS utilizes only for 4 cores for 60% of the time, but I get massive lags when those cores get 100% util. spikes. So my logic is: 13900k is about 35-45% better single core performance than 5900x, so in theory it will decrease those 100% util. spikes and put more work to GPU. But as always, will I feel this speed increase? "To dream of flying is to awaken the soul's desire to break free from gravity's hold."
xoxen Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 I´m not in VR but can hardly imagine that you will see a difference. The 5900X is pretty fast and should still be enough for your GPU, even a 4090. Aperture Posted November 23, 2022 Author Posted November 23, 2022 (edited) Well, I agree in some aspect, especially for non-vr, but considering what I learned about DCS, those CPU util. spikes are caused by simulation, which are calculated by CPU exclusively. Taking into account that DCS (at least in my case) uses only 2 cores... Do I missed something?
