The NWS/undesignate control is modified depending on weight on wheels status. Is it possible to do the same thing with other controls? For example, could I use one button for wheel brakes when on the ground and for something else when airborne?

The dual function of that button is something the real aircraft does, not a DCS specific thing. I don't know how you could do it with DCS currentlt to have different controls base on weight on wheels.

However what may help you is to look at control modifiers. I use them a lot. I hold a button on my throttle and all my hotas buttons have different functions. Very useful!
