S7_Viper Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Alright then. I bought this game on sunday. I have been waiting for more then a year for it as I was a huge fan of Longbow 2 and want something modern, and awesome. I got so impatient waiting for it to release, I got frustrated and forgot about it. I am 100% in love with this sim. I have been reading the forums as deep as I can to find all information that I can. I am about to get started learning the bird. I have some basic questions that you all will probably answer quickly. I have searched for the things that I wonder about, and if I did not search correctly, or missed simple things, I apoligize in advance. 1) Is there an option for free flight? 2) I found a mission called "Shooting Range" where I start cold on the pad. However, I cannot use the mouse wheel to zoom close enough to read the switch labels to learn the start procedure. There are no hover over tooltips as well. 3) Why in gods name are there 2 control schemes (real and game)? And do they switch between them based on how the mission is made? 4) I have tried to reprogram the "Game" controls to duplicate the "Real" controls, is that possible? It does not seem to want to save it. 5) (random question)When the bird is running, and I apply 100% collective, what is the beeping warning that continues until I come off of it a little bit? I know those are kind of silly questions. But I am simply trying to get on a flat area to learn, where the controls will be the same as they are in missions, and the campaign. I am sure that someone is going to tell me that in multiplayer that there will be differences. Thanks in advance, and keep up the great work ED!!
GGTharos Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 1) Is there an option for free flight? Not exactly, but you can make yourself one by hopping into the mission editor and plopping a heli down for yourself. Fairly simple. 2) I found a mission called "Shooting Range" where I start cold on the pad. However, I cannot use the mouse wheel to zoom close enough to read the switch labels to learn the start procedure. There are no hover over tooltips as well. There are no tooltips where there normally are otherwise? 3) Why in gods name are there 2 control schemes (real and game)? And do they switch between them based on how the mission is made? The player may choose whether he wants the more challenging realistic flight model, or the game flight model depending on his/her tastes. It should be possible - could you provide more details, such as the step you took to do this? 5) (random question)When the bird is running, and I apply 100% collective, what is the beeping warning that continues until I come off of it a little bit? Most likely your rotor RPM low warning. The engine is automatically regulated to increase RPM/power such as to maintain rotor within some nominal RPM range - when rotor RPM drops below this value you're in danger of your rotor not providing lift, and you are alerted to this fact. Likewise this can cause engine overtorque/stress and destruction. I know those are kind of silly questions. But I am simply trying to get on a flat area to learn, where the controls will be the same as they are in missions, and the campaign. Glad to be of help :) Set your control options in the options - also click the 'always use these settings' box. This should override anything saved in the missions (you can save basic game options within the mission) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

[quote[4) I have tried to reprogram the "Game" controls to duplicate the "Real" controls, is that possible? It does not seem to want to save it. This should override anything saved in the missions (you can save basic game options within the mission) I will make one in the editor with a free flight mode... so to speak. But on the mission shooting gallery, usually, if I hover the mouse over a button it will tell me what it is. Also, I can use the mouse wheel to zoom in to see the panel. Both of those things did not work... No matter though, I will make a mission when I get home from work tonight. As far as the controls. I set the axis controls to use the throttle in the "Game" mode, but it simply does not take. I set it, click ok, then close the options menu. Once I am at the main menu I go back into options and it is not set like that anymore. Also does not really matter though, since I will be making a free flight mission and I can learn the bird there. Now, to just find the "Always use these settings" box =). Thanks a lot brother!
