Tactical question, SU-25 first mission

Hello,

 

After (at last) having successfully learnt the basics of the frogfoot's handling and performed all corresponding training missions, i decided it was time to go for a real mission and so i chose the first one which is a strike on an airport about 20km south of the base.

 

I have one wingman and a flight of SU-24 is sent first to take care of aerial defenses.

 

When i arrive 10 km from objective i see, since i use labels on, that 2 avengers and several hawk laucnhers still wait for me. here comes my lack of tactical airwarfare knowledge:

 

Since i have only anti concrete bombs, i tried to use my cannon to shoot the remaining defense first and promptly got downed.

 

So here's my question, what should be my approach to this situation. from what i saw on the manual i have a feeling that i should fly extra low and popup just in time to relaease my bombs and then go back low and fly away and leave the AA alone.

 

Also, i have 4 bombs, once the first pass done, should i try to come back for a second pass or just head for the base happy to have survived the first one.

Hi BongoKid,

 

What I usually do is approach the enemy airfield, but with heading changes (don't let them get an easy fix on you). The Avengers will not be taken out. When getting close, line up with the landing strip (as late as possible), stay low. Drop bombs in one pass and DON'T GO BACK. Keep popping flares and chaff during bomb run. If you manage to drop your concrete pentetrating bombs on the tarmac, the mission is succesfull.

I use almost the same tactic as Hellmutt. I do go fairly low and fast .. drop the bombs almost in a toss delivery. I do not fly over the runway, I simply break away towards the sea from the airport dropping flares and dropping altitude. Do not engage the AA defenses ..the'll get you
