Actually, this is what I fly 95% of the time. The difference is that a WWII plane needs to be 300 feet away from you to shoot you, and you from them.  Using your mk1 eyeballs is perfectly fine.

On modern MP servers, the “others” know you are there 80 miles away.

Also, I honestly think that reading comprehension should be a crash course before allowing posting in these forums: I clearly wrote that I am not complaining, that I am ASKING how do you guys do it and how do you compensate for the lack of datalink.  Obviously you and others read:  “please mock me as much as you can with your pedantic attitudes and your incorrect assumptions”.

Thats nice.

I suppose some people have been flying so long that they can't acknowledge that some others are new people are unfamiliar with "the old ways". You would simply request a Bogey Dope from the AWACS while tuned to their radio frequency. The AWACS will respond with the closest enemy contact it can see to you, with a BRAA. If the bearing matches what you see on the TEWS , respond accordingly. Ideally other people will be on comms attempting to alert team mates of close threats. Depending on your mission and the estimated range of the contact and type on your 6, you have the option of ignoring or attempting to outrun it. Just because you got the ping doesn't absolutely mean they even see or intend to engage you specifically. As a long time F-15C main, I'm largely unaffected by the lack of datalink. But I also use the E as if its the C so I'm always flying CAP. So any ping I suspect is enemy I'm turning to.

That said if you are attempting a strike in MP where opposition is likely, have a wingman, or better an escort. Being on comms gives you the option of having many others that can check your 6.
