gammaxy Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 How effective do you think chaffing is against modern radar missiles?
Dragon1-1 Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 On its own? Not very. Combined with other EW techniques and jamming? It could help. Does it mean you can forgo defeating the missile kinematically? Nope, the best way of dealing with any missile is to make sure it can never get to you. EW is never a 100% guarantee.
timjulius1122 Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 Chaffing is less effective against modern radar missiles as they can distinguish real targets from decoys.

If it wasn't effective, chaff wouldn't be carried. But the use of it wouldn't be as simple as we have it in DCS - chaff would be used in very particular ways with specific dispensing intervals and maneuvers as well as inclusion of ECM. We don't know how each system would be affected by it - the DCS implementation is a simple stochastic model that works on its own. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Grodin Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 (edited) Atleast in DCS it surely doesn't seem nearly as effective against radar missiles compared to flares against heat seekers, i feel like i should just pick flares and only amraams because even my Aim-9X misses like half the time even against big cargo planes when they pop flares. Amraams on the other hand seem to almost never miss if i shoot it in range. Edited July 20, 2023 by Grodin 2 Fighting for peace is like screwing for virginity.
