fnslayeroc Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 (edited) I cannot seem to get the SA-5 to fire while at max range. It will fire at Targets within 75nm. Others have had this problem too. I tried a few things. Fresh Saved Games folder Full Repair With Skynet Without Skynet In DCS with the Sam site set to Alarm Red and Weapons Free Engage Air Weapons.... with the tin shield, with the p-19 with both, without both... I dont understand why this is happening it used to not do that. Yo can look at old grim reaper videos of them testing the SA-5 and it actually shoots at them much earlier than i can seem to get it now, and i cannot figure out why I jumped in the m2000c and flew at it, with no scripiting or anything just normal DCS.... It didnt start tracking me until i got to like 100 or less NM and then fired at me at 85 nm its threat ring is around 130-40 nautical miles. I can see why it would be off sometimes but its around the 70-85nm range it starts firing no matter what altitude its at.... Edited July 10, 2023 by fnslayeroc
howie87 Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 (edited) The maximum range of the tin shield radar is 150km (~80nm) as reported here. Looks like the "Tin Shield" is stand in until the P-14 "Tall King" is implemented. You can get around this to some extent by placing the radar closer to the target. The P-19 has a much lower max range from what I recall. Edited July 10, 2023 by howie87 1
Tasmanian Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 (edited) Actually, SA-5 does fire at targets beyond 200km. However, the target altitude must be high enough because of the Earth's curvature and terrain, I guess. (I didn't do the math to confirm.) There are other issues with SA-5: 1. The firing solution is computed based on the instant missile velocity. As a result, the missiles take too much lead after launch because the initial velocity is relatively low. This may cause them to lose the target and self-terminate. Track attached. 2. As I know, SA-5 emissions don't change after the missile launch, therefore the launch shouldn't trigger RWR. However, it does. SA-5_Weird_Launch.trk Edited September 18, 2023 by Tasmanian 1
