Pyrocumulous Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 I can't seem to ever get the JTACs to respond to me, despite being tuned to the proper frequency identified on the kneeboard. I see the proper JTAC listed on the comms menu, and I can do the check-in, but they don't respond. The radio does appear to be busy, but I don't see message text and don't hear anything. I do see this in the DCS.LOG, which seems to match up: 2023-10-05 21:07:46.955 ERROR ED_SOUND (29012): can't load wave: "speech\eng\common\allied flight\usa\1\effects\aircrafts\cockpits\radioclickbefore.wav" 2023-10-05 21:07:46.955 ERROR ED_SOUND (29012): can't load wave: "speech\eng\common\allied flight\usa\1\callsign\devil" 2023-10-05 21:07:46.958 ERROR ED_SOUND (29012): can't load wave: "speech\eng\common\allied flight\usa\1\effects\aircrafts\cockpits\radioclickafter.wav" Example screenshot from STAGE 6 65 perf.miz with clear line-of-site to Bandar Abbas, but I haven't been having success on any the JTACs on any of the missions that I have completed. That's generally not a problem, since the AI wingman is so awful at CAS that I self-assign CAP and SEAD missions, but it's odd. I will check.

I'm not sure if problem I found is the same you have or does those error messages have anything to do with it. I found that JTACs in Emirates with frequencies 133.0, 143.0 and 153.0 does work normally. They are not very useful but they work. But JTACs in Abbas area have frequencies with FM, not AM as all other frequencies used in this campaign. I was sure I have tested those frequencies during building process two years ago but either something has changed or I have only tested AM frequencies. Anyway, with that frequency band I can't change them to be amplitude modulated so only chance might be to give JTACs new frequencies. That of course means all ground war charts and kneeboards needs to be remade . It will take some time but fortunately those JTACs are so worthless that I don't think it will ruin anyone's game. 1
rob10 Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 Not sure it applies in this scenario, but something has changed recently (like last 3-4 months) and the F-18 (with older missions) seems to default to FM for all preset frequencies even if set to AM. It was patched so that this doesn't seem happen in mission building anymore, but I've seen what I think is this happening with older missions. I will say that I've only had it where it defaulted to FM, but was manually changeable to AM in the UFC without problem. Having said all that (which probably doesn't get you anywhere anyway ) there have also been issues with trying to tune certain ATC frequencies in a mission that a user reported. Weirdly it was completely reproducible from the users track file, but setting up the exact same thing in the mission editor had no problems. But I randomly ran into it in an unrelated mission. Not sure what goes on, but there is potentially a random not easily trackable bug with the F-18 radios currently.

I should have been more specific, it's the JTACs in Iran that aren't talking back. FM versus AM would likely explain the radio looking busy, but no audio coming out. Like you say, one doesn't need the JTACs jabbering away. ED already had it for November update but it for some reason wasn't included. JTACs should now be operative also in Bandar Abbas area during later parts of the campaign. 1
