zokier Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 (edited) Our government has finally in their great wisdom allocated money to "upgrade"(un-downgrade) our F-18 Hornets to include among other stuff Air-to-Ground-capabilities. Now I'm wondering what they are actually buying. Official announcement only vaguely mentions 'long range air to ground weaponry', which isn't very informative. My best guess(hope?) would be JASSM, but as I browsed Wikipedia I saw some other alternatives too; SLAM-ER and JSOW-ER? So I ask from you: How do these different AGM-systems compare, and what do you guess we are getting? All other discussion about (long range) AGM's is welcome too, comparisons to foreign systems etcetc. In case you didn't guess; the country in question is Finland. edit: Bonus question: what kind of targets would these weapons have when used strictly defensively? (Air)bases? Long range air defenses? Something other? Edited April 2, 2009 by zokier
