Pico 4 vs Quest 3 - My Observations

Hello,

Today i tried the Quest 3 for the first time using the link cable. I'm not sure if its placebo or somethings happened but my Pico 4 is seriously very blurry using VD. It feels like there's a sweet spot in the middle but the edges are blurred. Kind of brings me back to the Quest 2 Fresnel days. The clarity and performance on the Quest 3 is absolutely stunning, albeit a little of chromatic aberration on the edges, hardly noticeable.

If anyone wants to know i am using a RTX 4090, everything all maxed out. For the Pico on VD i have a 6ghz router right next to me so no loss of network performance/quality, but it still feels choppy.

If anyone else has tried both headsets let me know.

The Pico 4 should not look blurry at the edges. At least mine doesn't. 

I find that link cable gives a slightly better experience than VD on my QP but not by much. For me VD only becomes "choppy" if I can't maintain the refresh rate and it drops below about 55-60 fps.

Definitely no blurring in my pico 4 either. It’s very sharp almost to the edges. Now I do have QVFR so I have deliberately lower resolution towards the edges, for performance. I’ve been extremely impressed with the pico 4 since the day I bought it.

Must be something wrong then. I swear the first day i got the pico 4 and ran DCS it was a lot clearer. I could easily see the cockpit labels and around the edges of the lens. Now it feels like the Quest 3 is what i experienced on day 1 with the Pico.

I was using Godlike, 150MB H265 10 bit via OpenXR

Were these VD settings for both headsets?

VD only on the Pico as it doesn't do wired connections.

Try comparing like for like with both on VD then it's a better comparison. I personally prefer oculus link cable with my QP.
