I came across this interesting project. I have seen domes with a projected image used in high end sims. The developer of the jDome has come up with a folding dome that will sell for around $200.00. Then you would also have to add the cost of a projector, but, they have come down in price. Right now he is mostly showing it being used in FPShooters. But I think it shows promise for a flight sim cockpit. X-Plane actually has an option for rendering the image on a dome, so, it can be done! It's worth having a look I think.
