Ok…I’m a bit confused about something. If I am carrying external wing tanks (not centerline), do I need to set the external tank feed to “outboard” to get the fuel out of them first (or at all)? Or does it automatically feed fuel from there when the transfer is off?

I thought it was automatic b.c none of the startup videos i watched mentioned anything about it…but the manual makes it sound like they will feed automatically if there is no gas left anywhere but if you want that gas gone first (so you can drop), then you need to set feed to “out board”

What you are saying is correct. The plane has an emergency mode called "automatic fuel transfer" that activates shortly before the plane is about to starve from fuel and turn off. When that happens, all ext tank (and wing tank) valves are force opened and ignore your switch selections.

You are supposed to manage your fuel proper though and not let it come to this emergency mode. You do so by putting the triangle switch to OUTBOARD.

Be aware though that this means the internal wing tanks wont feed. So once your ext tanks are empty, put the triangle switch back to OFF to allow the wing tanks to feed again :)
