Heesh Posted June 6, 2024 Posted June 6, 2024 (edited) *Edit: Somehow my text got deleted. So here we go again: The readability of the glass cockpit display especially the mms view is really bad sometimes due to the "simulated display lines". It depends on the zoom level and head position. The screenshots provided don't really show the whole problem because ingame you have additional flickering as well. I know this problem is due to the renderer / engine (in this case not even restricted to dcs, rendering narrow fine lines always gets you artifacts). But maybe its better / possible to remove these lines entirely? What am I talking about? This lines here: 1. Close up look of the display lines (parallel to the display): 2. A little bit further away the problem begins to appear (parellel view): 3. It gets worse to this point: 4. At some point the lines are stopped being rendered: 5. When you are at the usual head position the lines are even worse in some cases (not parallel). Just in case: I'm playing DCS in 1080p. I guess it's less pronounced if played in higher resolutions but I can't tell for sure. Edited June 6, 2024 by Heesh clarification 3
Heesh Posted June 6, 2024 Author Posted June 6, 2024 (edited) I did some more testing. It's less pronounced if anti aliasing is set to DLAA but still clearly visible. The screenshots above are taken in MSAA 4x Edited June 6, 2024 by Heesh
c4nadi4n Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 Yeah i play in 4k and the lines are pretty bad. I use dlaa
BlowTorch005 Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 I think the scanlines are not that bad, I like it more like that that a totally perfect display. But I agree that it could be a "special options" toggle. However, what I really find distracting, or even annoying, and might not be intended, is the flicker in IR mode when the MMS LoS intersects the rotor disk. It doesn't happen at all on TV mode, but it does on IR. That's what leads me to believe it might be unintended. I understand that in RL, it is something that might affect the video whe looking down past certain angles, but right now it's a constant slow flicker. In this video you can see both effects, the scanlines and the moiré patterns it creates, and the (IMHO too much) rotor flicker DCS MT (RT_1 RP_4) 2024-06-12 00-02-18.mp4

See how having more or less than 10 degrees down angle (full or no rotor in frame) helps with the flickering. It may still be there, but hopefully will be not as bad. 1
RangerGav Posted June 15, 2024 Posted June 15, 2024 Agreed - I'm having trouble in VR with the scan lines/moire being so intense when moving the MMS that I can't see stuff. I feel like there was another module not long ago that had a similar problem and had to have the effect turned down (or removed) for VR users. 1
