I'm setting up a Wild Weasel training map, with each different SAM at different waypoints. The problem is, once I've flown against one SAM site it expends all its missiles and that's the end of that.

Is there any way I can script them to reload, or have unlimited ammunition, or something like that?

Add a supply truck (Ural375D for red or M939 for blue) near the SAM site or place them on an airfield. The trucks will have a ring around them in the mission editor and anything within that circle will be supplied. Use multiple trucks if needed.

EDIT- Also, The larger SAM's take longer to reload than others. Igla's and Stingers are almost instantaneous, but Patriot/SA-10/SA-5 take a long time to reload.

Truly superior pilots are those that use their superior judgment to avoid those situations where they might have to use their superior skills.

I tried that, with an SA-6. Nothing. Unless they take a really, really long time to reload?

But, also, I see that it still had one of its missiles. Does it maybe mess things up because I respawned?

Reload times are dependent on the size of the missiles. Thes seem to work on a set timer where when a missile is fired, the timer starts and however long the reload takes as specified by ED, the individual missile will be replaced. Not sure how long a really, really long time is but some SAM's take over an hour to reload... Not sure about the reload time for the SA-6 but I think it is closer to 20 to 30 minutes. One way to negate the reload time would be to set up another one or two sites in different areas to practice on while the others are reloading. You could also use the CTLD script and create a radio mission item to trigger a repair of the system which will reload all of the launchers... It's a bit convoluted and will take some time to set up. That is another way to work around the reload problem you have I suppose.

I see... Ideally what I'm after is scripting documentation so that I can just fix it myself, rather than needing to install other folks' large script libraries.

LOL: If it takes 9 months for a lady to give birth to a single baby, how much time will it take it when 9 ladies do the same?

But for a SAM site, unlike the ladies following should be considered:

1. a single launcher can be reloaded while others are still active.

2. you can have multiple reloading vehicles and reload in parallel.

IRL: it all depends what kind of the unit formation is applied and how many vehicles are available.

E.g. you can have a SAM site in a very barebone configuration with a single launcher and simply move on to new prepared position after the launch

Think I remember some one saying that SAM launcher will only reload after its empty so for some sites that like to alternate from one launch to another you may not get any reloading for some time. But when you think about it how long would it take for a crew to reload a site in real life?

Producers of SAMs specify the standard norms for reload and deploy/movement for properly trained crew. However IRL the crew themselves may find shortcuts and cut this time. Plus they may do the things outside of normal standards.

Now if you just want to reset a unit fresh instantly. You can use the respawn unit mist script and link it to a F10 menu option. mist.respawnGroup ('group name' , true)

link that line to a switch conditions flag change and a add radio menu and your all set. just keep respawning the unit group over and over. No need to restart mission.

A quick example to use. Was going to add the random spawn location in zone but was having a script issue. No time before work so I removed that part. Used the free plane and map so should be usable by everyone. Just spawn in and hit the menu option in the F10 for SAM respawn. you get a message each time you reset it.

After work I fixed the random spawn location. So here is a example of that for you to use and copy. Note that the SAM site will spawn in random location within the random zone. And that the tree remove zone will clear out any map objects around SAM site units. I recommend doing this extra step when ever you use random location spawning. I can do a step by step slide show tutorial if some one wants. This stuff can get confusing if your not used to doing a lot in mission editor.
