RubberDogSh1tOutOfHKG Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 If you look at the attached pictures you will see that ILS is acompletely independent system, no VOR needed. You will also note that the Course is defined by the Beam transmitted from the Ground Installation. Why then do you then need to set the Course of the Localiser in the Cockpit. Should be completely irrelevant.

Should be completely irrelevant. Many avionics require localizer course to be set reasonably close to actual course for the Flight Director to function properly. Even when flying with the FD off, its easier on the brain to have the course needle where its supposed to be when its on an HSI. NOTE: May or may not apply to the Phantom. Solution Zabuzard Posted June 11, 2024 Solution Posted June 11, 2024 There is a common misconception with the yellow ADI needles. They are not the ILS signal but the flight director, which is a different system. The actual ILS signal is shown on the sides, no needles. 5
RubberDogSh1tOutOfHKG Posted June 11, 2024 Author Posted June 11, 2024 (edited) -----EDIT!---------Would be nice to have in the Manual ----------- It Is In The Manual! SORRY! I just had a look at the Landing section, but I see the Buttonology is in section 3.3.4 If I may suggest to perhaps link to that from the How to Land section? Again thank you Zabuzard for answering my questions! Edited June 11, 2024 by RubberDogSh1tOutOfHKG

Is it correct that the Glideslope is the small White Triangle then, on the side of the ADI?
Zabuzard Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 Yes, that is the actual ILS signal. If set up, the yellow needles will guide you on a proper intercept course to ride the ILS down to visual. 2
RubberDogSh1tOutOfHKG Posted June 12, 2024 Author Posted June 12, 2024 I cannot find that described in the Manual, do you have any guide to this? Thank you!
